They say their eyes were watching GOD
Waiting for a change to appear on the horizon
But to some I may be the only God they ever see
And that leaves me with some very big shoes to fill
I got a whole generation clocking my every step
Some of them praying that I succeed at all cost
But their are crabs in the bottom of barrel hating too

They say their eyes were watching GOD
Waiting for a change to appear on the horizon
Some will die stagnantly waiting for it to appear
To fearful to step out and do anything on their own
When they going to learn wishes come a dime a dozen
And without action they are absolutely worthless
To get something done you got to get off the porch

They say their eyes were watching GOD
Waiting for a change to appear on the horizon
Even on the right road you'll surely get run over
If you sit still and wait on change to come a knocking
Change has not ever come without some kind of struggle
You got to wake up my child and join the revolution
For this movement definitely won't ever be televised

They say their eyes were watching GOD
Waiting for a change to appear on the horizon
Shriveling and dying waiting on God to do their job
God doesn't need to do what you are capable of doing
You do what's in your power and let God handle the rest
You can die waiting on Him to make you step out of yourself
Sooner or later you got to know this is bigger than just you

They say their eyes were watching GOD
Waiting for a change to appear on the horizon
Arise up and go with your eyes still fixed on the Almighty
For we know from whence cometh our help and strength
But you got to move beyond the simple role of watcher
And put your hands to the plow and press towards the mark
For you never what's around the corner lurking in the dark
