Omowale Jabali : The Wheel of Time

Very intelligent thread Bro. OM. Your Father and our Ancestor plays from within you. Personally I've been very fascinated by the concept of "time as an illusion" for some time now- musicians on the other hand have a different "theory."

The idea of "time is an illusion" goes out the window from the moment anyone tries to create or reproduce a piece of music, even a drummer following some type of intuitive patterns is following a structure of time, in fact it is clear that the concepts of time found in earth-based cultures are as cyclical in pattern as their music.

Still, that doesn't say that time is not an illusion but that such a concept is not something you can..."set your watch too" so to speak. It may be possible that one concept is being overpowered by the other.."time" is one concept by itself, "illusion" is another concept by itself. We can say that Love is an illusion, but what Man would stay with a Woman that says she doesn't love him? And vice versa.

Illusions are basically illustrations representing something else. Often times we think we of an illusion as a deception, a vivid holographic act. But there are more "illustrations" in our reality than there are designed deceptions, meaning that from since "time" began Human kind has been trying it's best to "illustrate" the thoughts and ideas going on within.

And if time is an illustration what are we trying to represent? The fact that things change. So far time has been the best way for Humans to explain change within their cosmic and physical environment. Age is basically a keeping up of our of rate of change. It is believed that we grow older for every 1 cycle around the Sun-each year, now here is where "time is an illusion/illustration" would benefit. It's possible to show that people also "age" based upon the stress factors within their environment. Thus you have children in high school- if they are living a hard life are aging 3-4 times faster than their peers. Then you have "pleasure societies" that practically don't age because pleasure is the opposite of stress and the more pleasure we experience the less we age.

So the real problem with time? It teaches us only one system when there are several. In fact we actually all have our own unique system of time that would keep us healthy if we can live by it. I know we all try! But we really can't live by it 100% if we have to interact with the world in order to make money and live.

Systems of time are as changeable as patterns in music- but they keep us locked into that 24/60/60 mode. I've been killing myself trying to reproduce that Muddy Waters system of time!

As stated earlier in this thread, time follows a structure/pattern. Therefore, to claim that "time is an illusion," is to deny the reality of mathematics. This is because, the very essence of the structure or pattern that time follows is mathematical in nature and is based on the number 0.

Time is essentially the measurement of motion. You can't measure with out math. So as long as math exist, so will time.

Sasa and Zamani

These are two concepts that have been explained by John Mbiti in his book African Religions and Philosophy. They are two ontological stages or dimensions of history in Swahili culture.
"Zamani is not limited to what in English is called the past...Zamani overlaps with Sasa and the two are not separable. Sasha feeds or disappears into Zamani. But before events become incorporated into the Zamani, they have to become realized or actualized within the Sasa dimension. When this has taken place, the events "move" backwards from the Sasa into the Zamani."

Sasa are spirits known by someone still alive, while Zamani are spirits not known by someone currently alive. So when one speaks of learning from the past, is this learning from time itself, or the spirits from a specific dimension or ontological stage of African culture? How can one learn from that which one does not know?

We know everything, we just don't know that we know. When we "incarnate" onto this plane of existence, everything we need is provided to us by those around us as well as those in us i.e. ancestors/genetic memory bank. Life is a process of relearning everything you knew before you "incarnated."
