    This great sun
    Covering the great Texas sky
    I stood facing west
    I wondered why

Why does this sunset last so long?
Perhaps the state is too big
Too much land for evening rays to cover

In the time frame known as dusk
    I stand in awe
A lonely Texas highway disappears into this ball of orange
Cactus plants wave goodbye to curious travelers
I hear them laugh at my question
    The sun winked
    Disregarding my inquiry

I listened for sounds of the Tenth Calvary
Charging across the Texas Oklahoma plains
Perhaps the Buffalo Soldiers can provide the answer
    If not these former slaves
    Certainly the Mexican Natives
Sons of Montezuma and Santa Ana
    True Texans
They will tell me the secrets of the western sun

    After waiting patiently
I realized no answer was to come
    But the great sun stayed
    I must extend my journey
Following this sun yet another day
    Another after that
    And still another

    Watch it continue westward
    With me in puzzling pursuit
    Eventually
I will see it sink behind the blue Pacific
    And think of Texas
    Where my journey began

Thank you for the read Poets. There is history in nature as you say Alyce. Much is to be learned from the story nature tells.

    this gives me...

    the most beautiful vusual image....

faces of ancestors floating across the sky above the beauty that mother nature has on offer below...

and on the wind....their answer to your question...carried down through time....

    I love this one...
