    I've seen the look
    he gives you
    whenever he thinks
    you are doing
    something wrong

    He always tilts his head
    to one side
    half closes his eyes
    and puts that
    half-smart
    grin on his face

    Then he calls your name
    in "that" tone of voice

    I've watched your reaction
    to this time-worn dance

    Your hands start to tremble
    your voice is shaky
    and you get this look
    of complete dispair
    in your beautiful eyes

    Then you run to him
    at his beck and call
    like a little puppet
    with him the only person
    who can pull your strings

    I've watched you do it
    a thousand times
    and every time
    I ask you
    the same question

"Why do you let him do this to you?"

    and your answer
    is always the same

    "Because I love him!"

    and as always
    I can't help but think
    that your interpretation
    of what LOVE is
is not really love at all

GQ....I have to totally agree...no matter how much I see it, it still amazes me that women are willing to be treated like this and then call it love....

Sherykah..it's like a catch 22 situation isn't it.....one explains the other, explains the other type of thing...for someone on the outside looking in though, it's hard to see the connection between this and love..

Rich..is it an awakening or a constant knowing ...because women in these relationships are always aware of what they can and can't do, for fear of lighting the fuse of their spouse...life's too short to have to live like this....

your imagery/visuals are always so precise-ly
vivid. i think we've all been in those "outside
lookin' in" type situations with friends... where we
are left wondering... "why the hell can't she see
what i see"??? (& most times she does!!) but!

this was very well done... AS USUAL!! :)

This picture is so colorful if only in black & white (to me)...there are so many visions I can see in & through this piece of poetry!

    Thank you.

    with my thanks

GA...yeah my thoughts exactly...it's so easy to see when you're lookin' in....but the view is blocked when you're lookin' out...

Coco..thank you and yes, unfortunately for some the abuse goes too far and they do escape, but in a different way...

Hunter...knowing that you even read my poetry is thanks enough..

N2...I agree..it's a situation whereby you see the same underlying theme, just different versions of it...
