I was requested by an acclaimed Detroit poet, and friend, Aurora Harris, to post this poem on as many sites is possible. I think this is an awesome statement of her spirit, after breaking her silent protest against the war to write this.

    After the bombs are dropped

    and the anthrax is dropped

and biochemical **** is sprayed in the winds

    and gun shells sink next

    to undetonated field mines

    a child soldier will trip

and the earth begins to swallow

    the blood of humanity

    and we begin to breathe

    the nightmares and screams

of another global post traumatic stress

    most will retreat into prayers

meditation and the silence of an

    extended hand

    a hug

    a stream of tears.

    I still have parents

    who are alive

who have been through wars and

    have survived being

    soldiers and prisoners

and when the war is mentioned

    I have to live

    with silent memories

    of those wars

    trapped in the silence of

    their distant eyes and

when I look at my sisters

    30 to 1

    struggling to find a

    husband, lover or mate

    I think of Vietnam and

when I look at my students

    20 to 1

I think of all the drugs that really ****ed up or

killed our children, fathers, uncles, cousins, brothers

and I found myself pacing in the yard this morning

    I screamed into the world

    NO MORE WAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRR!

    and collapsed into the snow

    echoing

    two billion voices

war be not of our head
    yet many lay for dead
    silent cries

    feast of how many
    left alone
