Sensing a presence in my room
I felt a sudden peace
Hovering in the quiet air
Night-time stillness unbroken
Wide awake was I
Reviewing my day,
Planning tasks for the morrow
With eyes open, scanning my familiar things
As an unseen weight depressed the side of my bed
But I was not afraid
For just a few moments, it stayed
Not a sound, I made
Lying still

Whatever it was, I knew it was sent from Above
My darkened bedroom seemed canopied with love
I remembered my mother perching beside me, just so, in life
Surely, no Hellish spirit could produce such calm
But, briefly, some serene entity served a goodnight balm

Lying still
Not a sound, I made
For just a few moments, it stayed
But I was not afraid
As an unseen weight depressed the side of my bed
With eyes open, scanning my familiar things
Planning tasks for the morrow,
Reviewing my day
Wide awake was I
Night-time stillness unbroken
Hovering in the quiet air,
I felt a sudden peace
Sensing a presence in my room.

In the Spirit of Sankofa!
