Question: "What does the Bible say about a sixth sense / third eye?"

Answer: .... Is there such a thing as a "sixth sense" or "third eye"?

A sixth sense can also be described as ESP, or extra-sensory perception. Sensory perception is the means by which we acquire information through any sense other than the five basic senses (sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing), or other well-documented scientific physiological senses. Depending on one's culture and beliefs, a sixth sense can be attributed to anything from the spiritual to the technological.

Parapsychology addresses certain types of ESP—such as those possessed by psychics and mediums—including clairvoyance, telekinesis, and communication with the dead. The Bible makes it clear that these types of experiences should be avoided. We should not exercise any sort of spiritual abilities outside the realm of what the Bible deems acceptable, nor should we consult with anyone who does so.

If such a thing as a sixth sense or third eye truly exists, it is not of God. Those who claim to practice such abilities are either deceivers, self-deceived, and/or under the power of demonic forces. Leviticus 19:31 says, "Do not rely on mediums and psychics, for you will be defiled by them. I, the Lord, am your God." Consulting spiritists is foolish and angers the Lord (2 Chronicles 33:6). Acting as a medium or psychic was punishable by death in the Old Testament (Leviticus 20:27).

The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit of God has been given to each of us who has received salvation through faith in Christ (Romans 8:9-11). This Spirit will be our guide and teacher of all truth (John 16:13). For Christians, all spiritual leading and communication should come from God, through prayer and revelation from His Word. The only “sixth sense" we need is the Holy Spirit; everything else is counterfeit. But if we allow the Spirit to fill and control us (Ephesians 5:18), we will not be led astray by deceiving spirits.

    Eye Salve: The Third Switch

The third thing that Jesus told the Christians of Laodicea to buy from Him in Revelation 3:18 was eye salve. They had to "anoint" their "eyes with eye salve" so that they could see. In order to understand what He meant by this, we must define two key Greek words. The first is the word for "anoint". It is well known that there are several Greek words in the New Testament that are translated "love" and each means something different. In the same way, there are several Greek words translated "anoint", each of which also means something different. To understand this passage we must know which word is used here. It happens to be egkrisai , transliterated "egkrisai" and it actually means "rub in". Jesus was telling them that they had to rub something into their eyes.

Then we must understand the Greek word for "eye salve". It is the word kollourion, transliterated "kollourion" which is the name of a then - popular type of eye salve that was made in Laodicea around the time that the Book of Revelation was written. The interesting thing about this eye salve is that it came in lumps shaped like small loaves of bread. In fact, the name is a diminutive form of the Greek word for a loaf of bread. So Jesus can be understood to be telling us to rub something into our eyes that is in some way related to bread. Now what could that thing be?

We get a clue to what this thing is from II Chronicles 7:14, in the words, "...seek My face..". Many Christians have mistaken this phrase for another reinforcement of the admonition to pray. But that is not what it means. In the Old Testament, to "seek someone's face" meant to work at getting to know that person well. So how, aside from prayer, do we work at getting to know God well? By working at getting to know the Bible! In Solomon's day, this would have meant studying and meditating on the Law of Moses. That's what the writer of Psalm 1 was telling us to do. For us, it means working at getting to know the entire Bible. The "eye salve" Jesus was talking about is the Bread of Life, the Word of God! It is only by "rubbing the Scriptures into our eyes", which means filling our minds with the Word, - and that as opposed to anything we don't need to fill our minds with - that we can heal our spiritual blindness.
The Third Switch, then, is really filling our minds with the Word of God,...

....Then, you must study the Bible. This involves really digging in the the Word to find out what it really means. Outline books and chapters. Define words and terms. Go to the Greek and Hebrew for the definitions. Use a Concordance to see how they are used in other passages. Consider when a statement was made, who it was said to, where, why and by whom. Look up names of places and people, as well as terms unique to the Bible, in a Bible Dictionary. Read what Commentaries say about the passage your are studying. Learn Bible History, and the History of the Bible (not the same subjects). Learn Church History. Learn the History of Christian thought. You must go below the surface, so to speak, to find the full and/or correct meaning of many passages. Watch for implied meanings as well as straightforward meanings. (Some of the implied meanings are more important than the straightforward meanings.) Keep organized notebooks filled with the things you find, and review them often....

Does the bible distinguish between a prophet and a psychic? If so, how?

I was just wondering the same. Would intuition be in the same catergory as ESP?

The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit of God has been given to each of us who has received salvation through faith in Christ (Romans 8:9-11). This Spirit will be our guide and teacher of all truth (John 16:13). For Christians, all spiritual leading and communication should come from God, through prayer and revelation from His Word. What exactly is the Holy Spirit? If you have a link where this topic has already been discussed would you please post it for me. I would love to read it.

    :donttell:

"We call it the "The Third Eye", but Others call it The Pineal gland which is in the center of the brain." The Pineal gland goes on to produce the Melanin. Melanocysts are the actual cells that hold the Melanin, and in comparison, White people have the same amount of Melanocysts as Black people; but the difference is "in White people Melanocysts are closer together, and smaller in size." Where as in "Black people our Melanocysts are spread out and larger in size."

"Now here's the parts that fascinates me. Did you know that "we start producing our Melanin at certain times of the day, and night, and seasons?" Isn't that just so amazingly! In the summer months--it starts around 9pm, increasing more around 10pm and so on, 11pm more is produced, and the amount increasing up the scale to around 12 midnight to 2am in the morning.

So the peak hours when we produce most of our Melanin are from 12m to 2am. Then the production starts to decrease as the hours nears closer to morning. Then "when we go outside and Sunlight hit our eyes we produce more Melanin, but it's called something else under a different name,
    but it's still Melanin."

Ok....I kinda think I understand. It's not the connecting with God to get specific information (via prophets) that is the issue, it's who you are going through to receive that information (via false prophets or psychics)?

I believe there are false prophets but have been inclined to believe it was an individual thing that occurred across all traditions. What distinguishes their source of power?....I mean how do false prophets gain access to the same information (in some cases) as genuine prophets, and how can people distinguish?

Also, if you are inquiring about issues in prayer, meditation, etc., how do you know God hears and how to look for the answer if you are not using internal insight or intuition?

    Thanks.

The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God...God's essence and knowledge through his Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is revealed in many ways through "FRUITS" and through "GIFTS."

    Galatians 5:
[19] Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
[20] Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
[21] Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like
: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
[22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
[23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law

    1Cor.12
[1] Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
[2] Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
[3] Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
[4] Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
[5] And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
[6] And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
[7] But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
    [8] For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
    [9] To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
[10] To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
[11] But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
