alabama
a slender flexible rod
she was his switch
he would flip her up to turn her on
shift her down when he was done.

one motion from his finger
she was to be ignored
swapped for another’s attention
usually done in secret

though weakened by craftiness
captive by her own naivety
strong feelings of observations
and the obvious displayed their talents

her waves traveled fresh frequency
diverting current to a new conductor
exchanging her usual composer
electrocuting his heart into four syllables
re·gret·ta·ble

so lets all feel sorry for him
show no compassion for her
