As I walk this journey alone
The journey to my death on the cross
The death of a common thief
The death beside a common thief
The same people who I have set apart
Blessed and cherished as my own
Now spit jeer and taunt me as if I have done them some wrong

The same people who just a while ago laid palm branches at my feet
    And proclaimed me their King
    Not one
    No not one
Will help me bear this cross

    The twelve disciples
Who just the other night vehemently
    Proclaiming their love
Severing an ear to defend my life

    But now
    Not one
No not one will lift a hand to help me
If they could only see the trillions of angels
Who watch in disbelief as I bare this cross alone
As the angels for the first time begin to understand
    The true penalty of sin
The angels draw their swords as I fall beneath the wait of the cross
Hoping that I will give the nod, the wink, or simply the look
Releasing them from their orders not to harm the inhabitants of this world
One look and all mankind past, present and future shall be destroyed and lost forever

Gabriel cries out to the father that he cannot hold the angels back from the bloody destruction
If their Lord and Saviour should fall once more
No sooner do the words leave his lips
    Then
The Son of God falls beneath the weight of the cross once more
The angels with swards in hand draw close to the unsuspecting crowed as they continue to laugh and curse the name of Christ
but wait! this time is different
just before the well deserved bloodletting begins someone breaks line
Risking his own life to bare the cross for Christ
Perhaps it is one of his chosen people
Perhaps it is one of his chosen disciples
Perhaps it is one of his childhood brothers
Or maybe it is simply one black man of conscience
Willing to stand and be a man

“for we know in part and we prophecy in part”
Little did he know that it was the Saviour of the world whose cross he did bear
