First of all they believe that they can change and whole heartedly that reason for it is Jesus. But there have been difinately cases with people that have made great changes under other religions or no religion. That discounts anything Christian in the cases under other religions and anything religious with the cases under no religion. Does that person get the credit then since he dont go to any mosque or church and not Jesus. Then how much more power can you and not Jesus have. The subconcious is so powerful that anything, name, or idea you put your whole heart into can help. It all has to do with the thoughts you have about it.
But if person credit Jesus for a great change in them they are going to believe whole heartedly any intepretation that preacher has to say on their religion and most of those intepretations have been proven wrong if you have done your studying. Obviously you can see an political agenda among the leaders of Christianity if you understand what was said in paragraph one.

I know this an old post, but here goes...

People credit the Holy Son for their changing because He is the reason they wanted to change, and the Father our Helper who we know through the Son; our betterment comes from He and the Father, after taking on understanding of what has been done for us with the Son's sacrifice, and His resurrection from the dead, and also the Father's long suffering of mankind.

In cases where a person changes their behavior for the better without giving thanks to the Father nor the Son, well, it doesn't mean They had no hand in it. It is simply a deciding whether one will acknowledge and give thanks to the Father and His Anointed for their blessings upon us or no; just because one doesn't believe in the Father or Son doesn't mean the rain that falls upon them comes from a different source than the rain that fall upon the righteous, ya see? It all comes of the Father with mediation of the Son, our Savior. :)
