4,000 artifacts stored at Oregon refuge held by armed group


... The artifacts and remains came from ancestors of the Burns Paiute Tribe. Chairwoman Charlotte Rodrique says she feels helpless knowing that her tribe's cultural heritage is now in the hands of the armed group.

"As far as I'm concerned, our history is just another hostage," Rodrique said.

The tribe has sent a letter to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. attorney for Oregon, Billy Williams, asking that members of the armed group be prosecuted if any artifacts or maps are damaged or missing ...

First Member Of Bundy Militia Arrested


The first members of the militia illegally occupying a federal building in Oregon have been arrested. The occupation has gone on for nearly two weeks, costing the state more than $133,000 per day.

Two members of the militia were finally arrested when they took federal vehicles stolen from the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge and drove them to a local Safeway ...

Oregon governor criticizes feds' handling of occupation


She said the occupation has cost Oregon taxpayers nearly half a million dollars so far. She didn't say what those costs entailed.

Brown said residents in the area have been "overlooked and underserved by federal officials' response thus far."

She called on federal authorities to quickly end the occupation and "hold all of the wrongdoers accountable" ...

... On Thursday, the armed group's leader went to the municipal airport in Burns, Oregon, close to where officials have set up a staging area. He says he spoke with federal authorities over the phone.

Ammon Bundy said his group is "not going to escalate" the situation, and he agreed to speak with authorities again Friday ...
