The other night I saw six stars
Shaped like the one sung and
Mentioned in old slave songs

It was directly over my house
For three nights I went outside
Late each night to view the site

The First Night they were upright
Overhead, directly over my yard

I felt blessed

One side had an arc
In the handle and the others
Clearly looked like a cup

The Second Night the cup
Was tilted half way like it was
Allowing me to drink and
Quench my thirst of the day

The Third Night it moved
And was tilted full tilt
Pouring all it had on to me

And then I felt the drift

It took me back
To salve readings I have done

It had me thinking
The earth and stars were one

It had me thinking
It was pouring out the gifts that it shown
Down on mankind

Not just for me
For this earth could use one

A miracle

I thought an awaking of sorts

A guide
That has been with us
For so many years

So wonder what I am saying
And the stars I speak about

It was the stars that
Make up the Drinking Gourd.

When the slaves were shown
How to find their way North

This they followed and it showed them the way

Six stars make up the set.

As I watched this fantastic set of stars

From my backyard on those three nights
I felt it was quenching the thirst

I have for life and showing me the way.

FANTASTIC!

*STANDING OVATION!* I LOVED your presentation of this!

Yes, indeed, "FOLLOW THE DRINKING GOURD!"

Here's the song:

When the sun comes back,
and the first Quail calls,
Follow the drinking gourd,
For the old man is waiting
for to carry you to freedom
If you follow the drinking gourd.

Chorus:
Follow the drinking gourd,
Follow the drinking gourd,
For the old man is waiting
for to carry you to freedom
If you follow the drinking gourd.

The riverbank will make a very good road,
The dead trees show you the way.
Left foot, peg foot traveling on,
Following the drinking gourd.

The river ends between two hills,
Follow the drinking gourd,
There's another river on the other side,
Follow the drinking gourd.

When the great big river meets the little river,
Follow the drinking gourd.
For the old man is waiting
for to carry you to freedom
If you follow the drinking gourd.
