There is a new Invisible Man in America. This man is similar in appearance to Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man, but he is somewhat different. He is invisible to Television and Newspaper reports. His absence from Talk Shows, Movies, and Magazine articles goes unnoticed. He is even invisible to many of his own women. This man lives in the shadow of his more notorious counterpart: the dangerous, Black male. The new Invisible Man is faithful to his wife. He loves and supports his girlfriend. The new Invisible Man is proud to be a father, and takes care of his children. He is active in the church, and is a leader in his community. The new Invisible Man may or may not be educated; may or may not be wealthy; yet, he remains ignored by society at large. The “new” Invisible Man, is the good Black man, and I wish someone would see him.

See him? ...I on the other hand, wish more of us can be him. Talking about a change? ...
We can clean up the world...step by step...
    un-noticed.

I wrote this at least 2 years ago, if not longer. In fact I viewed it to be more of a statement, than a poem. I was inspired by the disgust I felt from reading one too many articles about how black men are no good (don't take care of their children, are lazy, criminals, can't commit to women)....I'm sure I don't have to go on, because we all hear the same. I thought to myself that I am the opposite of all these stereotypes, but no one wants to tell me story. In addition I know a lot of black men like myself...so I sought to speak out for brothers who were Invisible to society at large!

The media does not wish to see this man, to dispel the many myths, to erase the criminal images seen by thousands daily. But we know this type of man exists, and I am glad you chose to write this piece that simply depicts the truth. Write some more.
