they wrote a song

songs, like poems
can haunt your mind
and you find them playing
at the damnedest times

they made it long

verses just go on and on
no rules of theory they had to obey
every time they loved
a new chord would play

the beat is strong

and nasty, like the deep
throated pounding on
a tight bass drum
telling where it's all
coming from

yeah, uh huh,

they wrote a song
they made it long
the beat is strong

and it still plays on

the most important element

of this thing called 'poetry' isn't always where the writer is coming from...it's where the poem takes the reader. I'm not a poet, by any stretch. But I felt this one. And I'm learning from all of you, how to 'see' from the heart and soul.
