Well, yeah, I understand this...intercollegiate athletics...MEN'S football, basketball and ice hockey . . . in my neck of the woods...are revenue generating sports that draw huge salaries, endorsements and reputations for their coaches making them millionaires, offering professional career opportunities for the student-athletes that make them lots of money and heroes to children and adults who are sports fanatics...maybe enthusiasts is a better word, creating competitive rivalries between universities for years and years and years, crazed-out fans by the thousands who are tailgait partyers on game days and who drink kegs and more kegs of beer, wearing, driving and home decorating in their favorite school colors, the sports that draw in humungous revenues every year for the schools and have fans singing the school's "fight song" played by the school's marching band and with cheerleaders tumbling around on the fields and courts, the type that attract endowments made by the most successful among the athletes, earning them a place in the school halls-of-fame and Who's Who list; the type of sports where the schools board of trustees get to take trips paid for by their universities (a perk?) during March Madness and other NCAA tournaments . . . those are the sports I'm speaking of.

The point: Enough money is made to share it with the athletes in those sports . . .
