THE LUKEWARM CHURcH OF LAODICEA

Here’s another clue to the term “Lukewarm” in Rev 3;16.“The relationship between the Imperial Court of Emperor Domitian and the city of Laodicea in Turkey was longstanding. As Graig Koester tell us:

In 23 AD Laodicea competed with other Asian cities for the honor of building a provincial temple to the emperor Tiberius. Although the temple was built at Smyrna, Laodicea remained supportive of imperial claims. A statue dedicated to Titus in 79AD identifies him as “Son of God”, since he was the son of the Senate deified Emperor Vespasian. Some of the gladiatorial competitions held at Laodicea were sponsored by the high priest of the imperial cult in Asia. An inscription from the second century AD refers to Zeus (Amen) and the Augustan Gods (i.e, the deified Emperors).

In his address to the Church in Laodicea, the individual (Domitian) who speaks as god talks of having a father who also was a god with a throne. While these images may seem trivial, Domitian was, of course, among the very few that could actually claim these attributes” ( Shakespeare’s Secret messiah by Joe Atwill p.283)

Within this context and comparing the other two churches deeds in Rev chapter 3 as incomplete good deeds (church of Sardis), and complete deeds of Satan (church in Philadelphia). It appears the church in Laodicea was on good terms with Domitian and there “Lukewarm” deeds were on the level, balanced and on good standing with Domitian. There is only conjecture that the spiting out of “Lukewarm” were an allusion to snake bite deeds. By reading the entire context of Rev chapter 3 it clearly indicates that Lukewarm was the balance between the incomplete deeds (deficient) and the deeds of Satan (excess). That’s why Lukewarm was between hot and cold. Furthermore Lukewarm or Tefnut (Equilibrium/Balanced) is born by being spat out
