the stem, long with
bends and ridges
shows the life we walk
as we journey upward

the stem covered with
thorns and bruises
symbolizes the pain we
go through in life to reach

the petals, rich in color,
layered and closed that
speaks of the untold
treasures held within

until the day the sun
welcomes a new day
and the petals trust
and accept the one who

holds them, covers them,
prunes them, and places
them in fresh water so
that when morning comes

the petals spread
and the fragrance
of love is released
into the atmosphere;
