sometimes the lady gets tired
she nurtures all of the men in her life
the high maintenance husband
who's emotional ups and downs
are like holding onto the guardrail
of your most frightening ride

who will he be today
the angry investment banker
the funny comedian who holds a drink
the spiteful dictator who screams and shouts
the provider who showers her with diamonds
take your pick…roll your dice

sometimes the lady gets tired
she nurtures all of the men in her life
the overly bright first grader
the lazy and hilarious kindergartner
she tries to teach them and protect them
who will they be one day
she refuses to let it be up to fate or
take your pick…roll your dice

because at work the vice president
likes his fruit washed
his messages neat, his calendar tight
his meetings just "so"
and if things aren't his way he lets her know
day to day she shuts her eyes for a moment
she looks up and continues

and every day it's a little harder
it all catches up to this lady sometimes
a glass of wine turns into a bottle
pain killers are kinda nice too, but is it her head
or her heart that is hurting sometimes she can no longer
tell the difference or the deference of which she is trying to fix
but she knows for sure that she is tired
