Brotha Cedric raised an important issue in another thread. I could not dismiss his comments because they hit too close to home. In the last six months no less than two christian men at this school have invited me to accompany them to a hotel. When I suggested to one of them that sex should be within the confines of marriage he looked at me like I was crazy. "You got to be joking. Let me get this straight..." I asked him what does he do sow seeds to the flesh all week then go to church on Sunday and pray for a crop failure? He just laughed, But when he invited me to go to church with him it was my turn to laugh.

Now it seems brotha CD has brought Herukhuti to the table today. I know that African spiritual systems do not demonize sex as christianity does and I know that if the ALL is truly all then there can be no aspect of our lives which we mustn't speak of.

As brotha Sam is wont to say balance in everything. There is such a thing as being overly preoccupied with things sexual especially in western society. At the same time there is such a thing as being squeamish and compartmentalizing our lives so that God cannot touch us where we live. Do we have our spirituality over here and life over there and we must choose to focus on one or the other? Fornication and adultery are not a natural part of the way we were created. But wanting to appeal to the opposite sex is.

It has always amazed me that while christians believe God created the heavens and earth and he looked at the animals and plants and birds and fish and creeping things and said "That's good" Then he made man and when he looked at man he said "That's VERY good" but when we look at man we say "Eeew! nasty disgusting! Get it out of my sight."

If demonizing sex has not helped christians from fornicating and being obsessed with pornography and other abberations is it possible that the view of sex as a natural part of life could engender a healthier attitude that takes off the pressure and guilt tripping allowing us to have more control and use sex for what it was intended?
