Could the 1600 year old manuscript found in a remote Ethiopian monastery be the world’s oldest illustrated Christian work? Having been re-dated, the Garima Gospels are indeed so say the experts: Originally thought to be from around the 11th century, new carbon dating techniques place the Garima Gospels between 330 and 650 AD.

A 15th century Ethiopian icon of the infant Christ child sitting on his mother's knee discovered after it was cleaned by a British charity.
The hugely important and stunning painted wood panel is now visible in its original coloured glory, showing a pale-faced Jesus with black curly hair and rosy cheeks.
