are shows like "the game" just updated amos & andy? i think so.
History of the Amos & Andy characters from radio to controversial all black tv cast show cancelled in 1953.
the game is no better IMO.......
In the Spirit of Sankofa and Peace and Love!
......Thanks sister cherryblossom, if you only knew how many memories you restored with this Find. It was packed with new information I had no clue about. Really, really, really enjoyed watching this Gem, for real.
Well, I have mixed feelings about the "Amos n'Andy" show.
....whenever contemporary people, events or media are compared to "counterparts" of the past, I try to take into account what was different for our ancestors.
I'm no fan of "THE GAME;" but comparing it to "Amos n'Andy" isn't the final word, IMO.
Yes, stereotypes are involved in both; but for "Amos n'Andy," those were different times.
....Hattie McDaniel was castigated in her time for her movie roles; but little is ever said about how she lived her life as a Black woman, in and out of Hollywood.
...same for the actors of "Amos n'Andy."
the game appears to be an updated version of A&A
amos n andy was a comedy in a time when black actors didn't have much opportunity in hollywood and what the[naacp]did in it's infinite wisdom is out black folks out of work when it got the show cancelled, the game is a whole different animal, what similarities are you speaking of james?
I don't like the Game, but I don't necessarily feel like it's flat out coonin taking place on there........just a cornball show.........
to me it is new age hip coonin. a bunch of black people acting like fools.
the game vs...
oh heck if that's all you're talking about just go stand on the corner in any inner city hood and you'll see more coonin and clownin than the[game]will ever show and we can dress the part too.
