    The Flickering Candle

    Shining so bright
    the candle's light
    illuminating the window
    illuminating the night
    the darkest corners
    it brings to sight
    hidden shadows
    beckons to see
    from the plantation garden
    it reveals a tree
    broken and torn
    with thorns that bleed
    under the tree
    lays mounds of flesh
    scattered in darkness
    the souls can't rest
    tortured memories
    of a jaded fruit
    the candle flickers
    as the cool wind coos
    whispering spirits
    of slaves that died
    the tree a reminder
    of men hung high

    ...>materializes from nowhere>

This is a very poignant piece. The style that you used to present it enhances the feel of the poem. It also moves it along in a haunting fashion that stimulates the mind.

    Great poem!
    Thanks for the inspiration.

    <vanishes from sight<...

    Yes, I feel you

The rope...the memories...we must not forget,
We must not forget the ones who died.
    Well written epiphany.

    "hidden shadows
    beckons to see
    from the plantation garden
    it reveals a tree "

This was my favorite from this beautiful poem. Many of our brothers are in jail or prison, because a white woman lied on them. Some need to be careful when crossing over. Just because she is with you, does not mean she is NOT prejudice.
I know personally, of a big white woman who told me that she didn't understand why many black men (looking at her I didn't either) were so attracted to her. She is a lesbian who take great joy in putting a black man's head between her legs and then brags to other black women about it. In the past, she would have had his head in a noose. Many of the brothers have forgotten and are not choosing their women carefully.

    "the candle flickers
    as the cool wind coos
    whispering spirits
    of slaves that died
    the tree a reminder
    of men hung high "

    Keep flowin' my sistah.

I invite you to read the poem:

Joyce I agree, sometimes we have to relive the past, so the mistakes of the present doesn't haunt us to oblivion.

Again Listeer I thank you for the read, it means a lot to me.

My intentions were to feel, the presence of this haunting
garden and immerse yourself in the emotion of the memory.
I'm happy Legend, I was able to take you with me on that vision.
