Define the Narrative: Black people MUST define the narrative!

Today, I heard the governor of Maryland say on TV that the rioting in Baltimore is "separate" from Freddie Gray's death at the hands of the Baltimore police.

He does not get the RIGHT.... to define the narrative. The rioting in Baltimore is NOT separate from, it is part and parcel of the events surrounding the death of Freddie Gray at the hands of Baltimore policemen. If Baltimore policemen had not crushed Freddie Gray's throat and severed his spinal cord, then thrown him higgledy-piggledy, into the back of their van, unsecured by seat buckles and other restraints to prevent further damage to his back and driven over the worst pot-holed streets in the city at high speeds, or even given medical treatment once dumped ignominiously at the police station by those white officers of the "law".... there would be no riots, there would be no rocks and bottles, there would be no property damage, there would be no (cop made up? [IMG] ) vows of revenge by HIS peers.

It is OUR lives, the lives of our parents, spouses, children, all those who LOOK like us, that were violated. WE get to tell the story of what happened to whom, by whom, and the morality of the aftermath. WE get to Define the Narrative, NOT the governor of Maryland.

Never those who would send their occupying, paramilitary forces into our communities and allow them to kill us with impunity, then tell us to let THEIR Just-Us system decide if our black lives matter. WE get to decide what is worth talking about and what is mere collateral damage.

WE get to define the narrative.

wonder what would happen if it were white christians getting killed by muslims?

i don't see where this is much different than what is going on in South Africa: they letting folks know that they ain't happy getting "apartheid" by our own.

"the fight for truth on the ground in . . ." everywhere Africans are it is the same fight!! with the same outcome: we get jacked for saying we tired of the bull.

too bad it takes getting to this point to get anywhere close to "satisfaction" even if only the "satisfaction" of being able to share how much the frustration hurts. although, of course, everybody is going to miss the point of the message.

i don't condone the violence and property damage, would much rather see other outcomes. but if them other outcomes ain't forthcoming . . . go tell it, baltimore!! they telling the same thing in South Africa.

Thank You James for posting this!!!!!:toast::toast::great:

This IMO dispels all of those backward _____ thinkers that think all thugs are dumb, uneducated, and can't do anything but destroy.

    Peace!

my greater source of personal concern, outrage and sympathy beyond this particular case is focused neither upon one night’s property damage nor upon the acts, but is focused rather upon the past four-decade period during which an American political elite have shipped middle class and working class jobs away from Baltimore and cities and towns around the U.S. to third-world dictatorships like China and others, plunged tens of millions of good, hard-working Americans into economic devastation, and then followed that action around the nation by diminishing every American’s civil rights protections in order to control an unfairly impoverished population living under an ever-declining standard of living and suffering at the butt end of an ever-more militarized and aggressive surveillance state.

The innocent working families of all backgrounds whose lives and dreams have been cut short by excessive violence, surveillance, and other abuses of the Bill of Rights by government pay the true price, and ultimate price, and one that far exceeds the importances of any kids’ game played tonight, or ever, at Camden Yards. We need to keep in mind people are suffering and dying around the U.S., and while we are thankful no one was injured at Camden Yards, there is a far bigger picture for poor Americans in Baltimore and everywhere who don’t have jobs and are losing economic civil and legal rights, and this makes inconvenience at a ballgame irrelevant in light of the needless suffering government is inflicting upon ordinary Americans.
