Diversity on the sidelines and front offices is still lacking

It was a very tough call to make to a friend, but Tony Parker had to do it. With his once powerhouse ASVEL in the basement of the top French basketball league, Parker told head coach Pierre Vincent that it was best that he was relieved of his duties immediately in November 2014.

Starting at point guard for the San Antonio Spurs is just one of Parker’s basketball jobs. The majority owner and president of the ASVEL basketball club in France who once had to fire a coach talks to the general manager daily, makes roster decisions, sends encouraging text messages to players and more. And while NBA point guards typically make good head coaches, he would rather be an NBA GM once he unlaces his sneakers for good.

"most black athletes lost their connection to a “sense of mission . . . of being part of a larger cause.” Young athletes, in particular, “dropped the thread that joins them to that struggle” and became, instead, a “lost tribe,” adrift in the world of white coaches, boosters, agents, club officials, network executives — those profiting from black muscle and skill"

I always think about that photo of all of them together... strong masculine black men allowed to be just that

15 NBA Stars Who Went Broke

......As part of the NBA’s Rookie Transition program, players entering the league get an intensive crash course in financial management and responsibility, a much-needed lesson for a unique, microscopic segment of the young adult population.

.......For as stunning as it is to consider that six out of 10 NBA’ers will be cleaned out within five years of leaving the league, the stories of some of the worst offenders are even more galling. Here are 15 of the most bewildering cases of NBA athletes losing their massive fortunes:

athletes and entertainers derive support from the black community and give little in return.
they provide a target rich group.
