Their is a river that flows so wild...
Its behind the old Barn house...
    and it runs for miles..

    It glitters in the night...
and is cool in the day...
    me an my little cousin...
use to sneak out their to play....

It has fish as big as dogs...
    And plump frogs...

    We always go fishin...
    in the Dimond River...
And watch when the tides start to quicken...
And the water starts to glisten..
    That Old Diamond River....

They say an old man died in there...
Said he fell backwards off his chair...
Said he went right in dhere...
    In the Diamond River...

Say that old barn... been dhere for years...
and dhat in the midnight...all dha fish go in dhere...
said dhey be talkin and walkin..
    From the Diamond River...

    Many believe its cursed...
    And say....
    Stay far far away...
But we always go and play...
    By the Diamond River...

    And then one day...
    Annie Joe May....
    Fell in dhat old river...
I tried to grab a hold a her...
    but river swallowed her whole...
I cried all the way home....
And I never went back out....
    To dhat Old Diamond River.....

    Incredible

this reminds me of a story my friend wrote about a young boy who's mamma told him not to pick no cotton in the fields after school. One day he went pickin cotton and when he got home his mamma was on the couch sleeping. His feet was dripping blood and he tried to hide it so he wouldn't get yelled at for being disobedient.

He kissed her...she didn't wake up
He called her...she didn't wake up
He pulled out the cotton he'd picked and rubbed it on here face in hopes that it would wake her.

When he realized his mamma was never wakin up, he dropped all the cotton to the floor and cried. He never went back to that ol' cotton field again. He even felt that it was his fault mamma died. If only he's come straight home, maybe she'd still be alive.

~this was the jist of my friend's story. It was just some off the top thinkin at the end of poetry night~
