THE CRIPS & THE BLOODS: According to Comedian Eddie Griffin
By Andre Austin
Eddie Griffin, a stand-up comic in his masterpiece work: You can tell them I said it, states the Crips and bloods started out as an offshoot of the Black Panthers that was created in Oakland a year after Malcolm X was assassinated in 1965 to fight police abuse.
1. One Panther moved to Compton and created the C.R.I.P.S, which was original for the defense of the community against police occupation and oppression. CRIPS was an abbreviation of “Community Resistance in Progress.
2. The other panther moved to Englewood to create the Bloods. Their theme was that if anybody messed with anybody on the block, blacks would unite and become all Blood related.
Eddie Griffin is wise and very talented. Of all the black comics he’s tied for 1st with Martin Lawrence for top dancers.
