    keisha
    having a baby
    determination set in her face
    for nine months
    she held to the concept
    like permanent glue
    a super bond
within her fifteen year old brain
    never allowing this thought track
    to change

    her man tray
    a thirty something
    hustler with a taste
    for young girls
    all around had skipped town
before the **** thing went down
    he’ll come back
    once his baby gets here
    or keisha told herself
    determination set in her face
    for nine months
    she held to the concept

    ten hours of labor
    weave tracks slippin
    hospital floor tiles
    littered with her screams
    and lee press on nails
    finally
replaced by her baby daughters wails
keisha brought life into the world
    the baby held onto keisha
    and continued to wail

as they struggle to grow together
at times they take turns wailing
but she will finish what she started
    determination set in her face
everytime she looks at her baby girl
    for life
she will hold on to the concept

    ...>fades in from nowhere>

Great piece, that captures the unsong misjudgement of youth taken advantaged of by experience and age. So many think they understand the 'concept' but they miss the details that lie between. And those details, like all things small, bloom into hard lessons that often (not always) end in regret.

Really enjoyed the read. Very touching.
