In the Old Testament we find the following verses among many:

"David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.
And the days that David reigned over Israel were forty years: seven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Jerusalem."

    1 Kings Chapter 2:10-11

"And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead."
    2 Kings Chapter 14: 16

Obviously these men died, so why would the author refer to them as "sleeping with thier fathers"?

    I know....but do you?

    Makin Us Think...............

IMO, this translated means that they were in a temporary physical death, until they are taken into an "AFTERLIFE", possibly awaiting judgement. As far as I know, many ancient Egyptian gods went through this process: mummifying and preserving the corpse for the "AFTERLIFE".

sleeping with his fathers and forefathers simply means where they was buried. because when we die we will be sleeping amongst our relatives as well as others.

I believe that way also. Seeing that there will be a judgment upon all of mankind, there is a temporary death, but there is also the second death, as stated in the Scriptures, which we should avoid, because there is no coming again from it.

I think all who believe should take it very seriously, because denying such things is not well, since it denies the very truth the Son came to teach us. He wanted to keep us safe from condemnation, and away from the fire by His sacrifice as the Holy lamb for our sins. And He has done this in love as the Father sent His Son to do so our of His own love. And we benefit so long as we truly believe and truly have faith unwavering in this sacrifice. And just as He has life forever after His resurrection on the 3rd day, come the day for us all, all believing will have life forevermore as well. Blessings!
