The Coming Storm

A Darkness hover

Echoes of Good-ole-Boy days
…and Jim Crow ways

White Supremacist collaborators
And other speculators
Talking ‘bout
“Make America Great, Again.”
C
O
D
E
for
The white man’s need to be in control
Again
Proud Boys
Oath Keepers
Ku Klux Klan
Thinking “America…in your hands”
Mean America…in their hands

Is that the America you want to live in?

Has it been that long
Since water-hosing cops
Beat black people in the streets

Since Ku Klux Klansmen
Marched the streets in white sheets

Since the good-ole-boy system
Kept us from advancing

THEY InVaDeD the CaPiToL

They threw temper tantrums
Coz they didn’t win

WoW!

What is it about Black Skin that terrifies you?
That drives you to kneel on my neck

Aren’t I innocent until proven otherwise

Why so many lies to justify your aim (if your aim is just)
But…In God…you don’t Trust”
With your heart

Why do you allow MeLaNiN to keep us apart

Where do you start
To mend fences
To rebuild bridges
To undo 400 years of hatred
Brought on by your weakness
Or selfishness
Or whatever ish gave birth to your ignorance?

Is this my return to
“A Time to Kill” mentality
Where injustice plagues our Every Day reality
Until we extinguish it

I refuse to tolerate this?

…This attitude of
Resentment
Forced upon us by a people afraid of us
Who don’t like us
Who would rather kill us
…than embrace us

Will this war never end?
Is this a trend to be repeated
Again…and again.
Never accepted as equals
No matter how many battles we win

The Darkness rages

Enveloping us
Suffocating us
Disorienting us

Brother against brother
At odds over skin color
I wonder…
What would happen if I rose up
Stood up
Stepped up
In full “Hood Up” mode

How would that go (for you)

Would it bring more fear
Me and my brothers in Guerilla Warfare
Attacking from thin air

No more Wilmington, NCs
Or Black Wall Streets

No more Blood of the Turnip
To be gotten out of me

It’s a “Black Panther” moment
If you want to take it there
War in the streets
Or an old rocking chair

You decide
