Summertime rituals of death and violence
    Crimson sidewalks
    A mother cries
Heat and hate mixed in streets of despair
    The children watch in wonder
    No one cares
    Night brings no relief

The inner-city calls to our young
"Come see who you will be"
Learn to run in oversized jeans
Watch your brother rule the street
Untied Air Jordans dress his feet
Children watch in the summer heat
    No one cares

    A ho called your sister
    Her body sold
    For short shorts and gold
    No jump rope here
    The children watch
    She's fourteen years old

    The eyes of children
    Big, bold, and bright
    They learn so fast
    The meaning of life
    The children watch
    The stress and the strife
    They understand
    How well they know
    The peace of winter
    When crimson sidewalks
    Will be covered with snow

the shame of it is that...

we sit on the wayside, standing by, as child after child perish in their own stupidity. helpless. 'coz mommie and daddy would have our heads if we say anything to little johnnie.

    i've seen the blood-letting.
    not forgetting
    the sorrowful cries
    as mommie asks GOD
    why
    Why
    WHY my little johnnie

    SAY THE WORDS, BE.
    let the river flow.

Thank you Poets. I'm so past the point of concern as our children fall further and further behind...What to do? What to do?

"Learn to run in oversized jeans..."

If ever a line summed up the times...it is this one
I admire your ability to watch the world so well
Ohhhh how you can scribe the peripheral....from the
    edge of your pen

You walk silently poet....and scream with led

    Beautiful peace
