    The Call

    I felt a rage
That spilled for thousands of days
    In hundreds of ways
But no one gazed into my pain

~ As I raged against my sorrow ~

They let tomorrow find me knee-deep in my rage
    Like the caged animal
Who could not break free of the cycle
    Rage put him through

    (But) I’m here for you

I have raged against the things destroying our dreams
I have battled against the obstacles of things unseen
    I have dismantled self-destruct
    And they all screamed…

    WHAT’S UP…my bruthaz?

    ALAS…

    I have answered the call
    I have answered the call
I have answered the call of my brutha
(Who is) looking out for the good of another
    Coz no other will

    I have answered the call

I answer the call of the declaration
    To stop the (mis)education
(And delinquent) young bruthaz and sistahz
Who have fallen victim to the woes of a society
That (still) tries to be the instrument of our doom

    And you assume…

    Hmmm…

Let us begin this war from within
    …correct the thinking(s)
    Of family and friends
    Cast aside the doubting thomases
…give armistice to those not against us
As we arm ourselves with the armor of
    GOD’s love

    Yes…I answered the call

I answer the call for right
Coz “righteousness” is why I fight
And I’d DIE…for the cause of it

My ancestors said: Protect the children

My ancestors said: Protect the children

    My ancestors said…
Protect them all from the grievous falls
    (The young ones make)

    I answer the call

I answer the call my ancestors made
    So long ago

For one and all…I stand tall
    As a symbol of right
    To those whose plight
    Travels through dungeon’s doorway
Into the valley of the shadows of death
~ My FATHER spoke of ~

    Yes…I answer the call

I answer the call of the lost ones
    And the drug ones
Even if they’re not my loved ones

I answer the call for the hustlers…the players…the thugs
Can you drop the hatred and show a brutha some love

    Mr. street corner pharmacist
With a pill for every pain
How can you look over the death you bring
    …for the paper you gain

Pimps and prostitutes…deep in your hustle game
“It’s the oldest game in the world,” they claim
But does that make it any (less) lame

    Gang bangers…rap sayers
    Spitting hatred and discuss
    Always guessing
Never teaching the valuable lessons kids need to know
Like, “I’ve got this message, yo’”

    Well…you know.

Where are the youths who cried a river of tears
    ‘bout their frustrations and fears
Coz no one had their BACK

    Where are they at?

I answer the call of the fatherless child
    …the motherless son
Who thinks all business is done
    With a knife…or a gun
So, he listens to no one

~ But that’s not the way, my son ~

I answer the call of the village few
    Who’s torment is great
For they had no one to sing their songs to

Yes…I answer the call of the miserable one
    Who had never known fun
    …never laughed a tear-filled laugh
Never seen how the other half (lives)

And…I’ll answer the call for you, too.

    This read with theme music

I thoroughly enjoyed this in its entirety.
I loved how you repeated certain lines
as if to make the words dig in so we can
    feel them deeper.

When your wind blows dynamic flows
such as this… long-wind me CONTINUOUSLY!:)

    Be Blessed!

    THANKS fam...

being a founding member of a NON-PROFIT called, MEN of ACTION, our primary mission is the mentoring/tutoring of our youth...trying to keep them on the right path. NOT AN EASY TASK...when the glitter of the streets keep catching their eye...but we try. AND THE FIGHT CONTINUES.

THANKS to Bishop for this call to arms.

You answer the call of those who may be the most difficult to answer, but their calls are top priority. Powerful words here brother poet.

and WE must continue the struggle...

for their sake. knowledge is power...yes. but a "good example" of how that power SHOULD be used, moves mountains. let US set that example...that WE may know that THEY're on the RIGHT path.

    THANKS for your kind words.
