Black Poetry : the bridge: between pain and joy

the near north
I saw this pathway
Bridging synapses and neurons
Here on
This staging station
Of yesterday’s relations seemed
Among other things
I’d forsaken “Love of Life”
For the capturing of the benjamins

But, now, it seems
I’ve fully departed
From my weak and half-hearted
Attempts at romance
Finally giving love a chance
To blossom and consume {me}
Totally filling the wounds
--the scarring of my life

I’ve traversed those bridges
Looked back on life’s yesterdays
Listening to the whispers
…the experiences life makes

now, I recognize the anger
I’ve cast away from me
Impatience and frustration
Fighting hard to control me

I can see the bitter end
The path my life may have taken
Had I continued on my journey
Ignored the strides my soul was making

You say you feel the good in me
The effect I’ve come to have on others
The smiles my presence now elicit
Unlike my past…so filled with troubles

Do you hear what I'm saying
Do you know how good I feel
I want to thank you for this day
For being my strength
For keeping it real
