student, but not for long
In the core of,
In the very midst of,
The lake.
I was surrounded,
And it was all that I could see,
For miles, for days.
I felt like succumbing,
I wanted to give in,
I didn’t want to be living,
And enduring the toss and turns,
Of the violent waves as the water churned.
Then from afar I spotted an assist,
And I was desperate, I couldn’t resist.
With everything that I had left in me,
I struggled over to it, hoping that it would set me free.
Trying to free myself from the clutches of the lake,
I pulled on a bough, not knowing how much it could take.
And then suddenly a chilling sound as it began to break.
It gave way, and I had no choice but to fall back into the blue.
So once again, I have been enveloped, encased, and engulfed,
In the lake of love, true blue.
Because the bough couldn’t support my love for you.
