Has anyone seen this show? What is your opinion of it?
its aight, needs to be a little bit more like the books
I think it is one of the best shows that have come on TV in a long time.
I like how the brother is just plain honest.
Havent seen it as of yet
But I am curious...does it live up to the comic mani?
I don't have adult swim, and wouldn't get it just for this show. I'll pick up the DVD set whenever it comes out.
It has a life of it's own.
I thought I was the only one...
I was surfing the channels Sunday night and came across this Japanese anime called The Boondocks..The episode I saw Grandpa played by John Witherspoon hooked up with a prostitute named Kristale played by Regina King. Grandpa was trying to making Kristale into a house wife and his two grandsons were plotting to get Kristale out their house and their Grandpa's life. If you liked The PJ's you'll love this. (Which doesn't say very much) The "N" word and "B" word are dropped a lot by adult and child characters on this show. This show is more graphic, more explicit and has more denegrating image of Black Folks than The PJ's. For instance, Kristale was exposed as a prostitute to Grandpa when her pimp arrived at Grandpa's house to pick her up. The pimp was performing "the pimp's prayer", pulled off his belt was about to slap Kristale when Granpa stopped the pimp. Grandpa then offered Kristale a life with him and a way to better herself and she chose to literally run after her pimp as he drove away and remain a prostitute. Granted this is intented for mature audiences but when are we going to stop laughing at the negative images of ourselves? We don't need to ignore the negative images of ourselves or let other people exploit our negative images either. It's like saying speaking ebonics, pimping and whoring, drug dealing and poverty is the Black way of life and should be celebrated. This show is nothing more than Animated Blaxploitation. To each his own though. Again if you liked The PJ than you'll enjoy The Boondocks...
I've seen just a little bit of it, from the other night.
It looks a little derogatory to me.
I caught the episode when they were trying to defend R.Kelly during the statutory rape trial and all they did was portray disgusting stereotypes of Black people being immoral and nasty.
I watch the boondocks. to me, it's humor. and for once it's good to see a cartoon with real black voices.
i mean, if we cant laugh at ourselves, then we take ourselves too seriously. i dont let my kids watch, but it is one of the few shows that actually makes me laugh hard.
and for peeps talkin bout the shows stereotypes and negative images, then im sure you dont have any problems with
Fox News Network
106 & Park
pokemon, which has no black people
i mean, come on. here is a black cartoonist, gettin his shot at a network. i aint saying its for everybody, but i'd give him credit, for taking anime out of the world of Asian monsters and white saviors, and adding some color.
i find it hilarious, but then again, that's just me.
The Boondocks is a satire of these stereo types. In the end the show usually has a message pointing out that black people need to stop acting like this. This show points out the rediculous way ignorant people act. It also clowns white peole and conservatives. The nword is dropped frequently , but i agree with the political messages the writter puts into the sript. If you can get past the profain language & adult situations youll see there is a positive vibe to the show.
