White House Urges WikiLeaks to Not Publish More Secrets
    VOA News 30 July 2010

The White House is urging the website WikiLeaks to not publish any more classified documents related to the Afghan war, saying it is important that no more damage be done to U.S. national security.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told NBC television Friday that all the administration can do is implore whoever has the documents to not post them.

He said a Taliban spokesman in the region stated that the Taliban is already going through the tens of thousands of documents that have already been posted to find the names of people who cooperated with international and American forces in Afghanistan....

.....Thursday, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen, said WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and his source "might already have on their hands the blood of a young soldier or that of an Afghan family."

...In a news conference in London on Monday, the WikiLeaks founder said the website has held back some 15,000 files from the approximate 96,000 documents it received in the leak. He said those documents are being reviewed, and that some will be redacted and released.

In a separate development, the U.S. military says an American soldier suspected of leaking military secrets to WikiLeaks has been moved from Kuwait to a military jail in Virginia.

Army Private First Class Bradley Manning was flown to Quantico Marine Base to await trial for leaking the top-secret information.

He was arrested in June for allegedly passing on to WikiLeaks a classified video of a 2007 helicopter strike in Iraq that killed two Iraqis who were on assignment for the Reuters news agency.....

Afghanistan war logs: Massive leak of secret files exposes truth of occupation

    Nick Davies and David Leigh
    guardian.co.uk, Sunday 25 July 2010 22.03 BST

The war logs reveal civilian killings by coalition forces, secret efforts to eliminate Taliban and al-Qaida leaders, and discuss the involvement of Iran and Pakistan in supporting insurgents. Photograph: Max Whittaker/Corbis
A huge cache of secret US military files today provides a devastating portrait of the failing war in Afghanistan, revealing how coalition forces have killed hundreds of civilians in unreported incidents, Taliban attacks have soared and Nato commanders fear neighbouring Pakistan and Iran are fuelling the insurgency.

The disclosures come from more than 90,000 records of incidents and intelligence reports about the conflict obtained by the whistleblowers' website Wikileaks in one of the biggest leaks in US military history. The files, which were made available to the Guardian, the New York Times and the German weekly Der Spiegel, give a blow-by-blow account of the fighting over the last six years, which has so far cost the lives of more than 320 British and more than 1,000 US troops.

Their publication comes amid mounting concern that Barack Obama's "surge" strategy is failing and as coalition troops hunt for two US naval personnel captured by the Taliban south of Kabul on Friday.....

Wikileaks is just another arm of the CIA, unfortunately.

The purpose is to "leak" specific information, and to lure whistleblowers in. I would not necessarily dismiss their findings, however, it is more important to ask why they are "leaking" this information in the first place.

The founder of Wikileaks recently commented that the 9/11 conspiracy is a false one. Now, anyone with a brain knows that 9/11 was a false flag terrorist attack meant to usher in the Patriot Act and get America to go to war.

Think of the end of Orwells 1984, the conspiracy was started by conspirators to lure it's opponents into a trap.

    Very interesting points here.

However, my concern is also for the countless servicemen who have become disallusioned between what they are told in the military and what they actually live and see and are ordered to do while serving.

There are many more men out there like this PFC Manning who is now going to be the "scape-goat" for these so-called "leaks."

I have known and spoken to veterans from every US military involvement from the Korean War to now, and they all have truths which don't add up with the "official lies."

These lies also contribute to the PTSD many of our veterans suffer after returning from deployment.

It is mentally and emotionally difficult for them to compartmentalize their own ethics and value systems with the atrocities they see, experience and do with what the US government tells them and what they tell the world.

With the new discovery of precious minerals i Afghanistan , the list of atrocities will continue, and permanent bases will probably be made.

What these veterans are experiencing alongside, and as possibly a symptom of PTSD, is a form of split-personality. This is because they have been forced into being participants of such atrocities, and become unable to reconcile who they are, with what they've done. The psyche resorts to disassociating with the part of Self that is aware of such atrocities. However, because the individual is so unaccepting of this part of themselves which participated, they consciously attempt to forget or bury the traumatic memories. This is the catalyst for and onslaught of split personality or disassociative behavior disorder.

Perhaps most sadly of all, because of this mental illness, a lot of our veterans wind up homeless. The latest statistic I saw claimed no less than 80 of the homeless are veterans.

The powers that be are keenly aware of this. Again, I refer to the novel 1984 and the "double speak" pervasive in that fictional work. "Slavery is freedom. War is peace, etc."

It is a small facet of a larger strategy. The objectification of women, and disassociation with fellow human of differing race, creed, etc., cultivates a society which if pushed, has no problem victimizing other humans in order to "get ahead" or survive. And the furthers a mass disorder of a cancer-like consciousness. Humans become their own auto-immune disorder, and we self-destruct through the repetitive 'divide and conquer' modality of manipulation. How else could you get a good man or woman to actively murder and maim innocent children in Afghanistan as their "job"?

    ^^^^^GGU:

Well, again, you've got interesting points.

However, all military forces around the world are taught to kill/how to kill; how to defend themselves and the respective countries for which they fight in combat. That is the "job" of every military force in the world. That is not exclusive to the U.S.

And not all of the atrocities are only executed by the U.S. forces. The "Allied Forces" comprise a number of different countries around the world.

Now, yes, I believe that some of the PTSD our veterans suffer is related to the lies they are told about the war and about their parts in the war.

To kill people because you believe you are "fighting for freedom,"(either yours or someone else's) becomes mentally and emotionally difficult to internalize when you find out that you were just a pawn and a scape-goat when the "Powers that Be" get exposed.

Going in, our servicemen and women are fed a lot of rhetoric about the Constitution and "freedom"; and in times of war, they are fed lies to keep up the pretense of a vaulted "patriotism."

Now, yes, there are some servicemen who were sociopaths when they joined the military; and when given the opportunity to exercise/fulfill their socio-pathic thoughts with behavior, then you also have more atrocities.

    peace

Most of the above of what has been stated in this thread is also the reason most of the service women/men involved in these un-declared wars will never be allowed to come home!

    just to add on:

Also, check the movie "WAG THE DOG" and "Manchurian Canditate" if you haven't already. Wag the dog is especially interesting as a popular movie producer (Dustan Hoffman i think) in the film produces a war on TV that never actually took place though the people were led to believe it did!

Wasn't Desert Storm shown to us on TV when Bush Sr. had just left office and his #1 drug dealer in Arkansas, Clinton was selected to run the family business?
