Yes. I am unaware of any people who are better off than they were before the white man 'discovered' them. Did they have disease? yes, but not to the extent that the white man brought. Did they have famine? Occasionally. Did they have warfare, slavery, rape, senseless killings? Yes, they did, but it was within the cultural norms that they had formed for themselves, and they knew the rules.
