    Tell the Babies

Tell the babies that the blood that flows in their veins today
built the Pyramids centuries ago. Tell the babies that the
genes that make them who they are created writing and
education when the rest of the world was bathed in ignorance.
Tell them that the voices that whisper are the ancestors
anchored within, echoing even as they sleep, to build the
next great tomorrows like were built the last magnificent
yesterdays. Tell them that they are required to Rule and
before they can must first Rule themselves with knowledge
that resists any attempts to dwarf their Humanity or make
them tumble from pyramids to ghettos. Tell the babies that
the ancestors left them a living legacy testifying that they
were designed for accomplishment, engineered for success
and somewhere in between was dropped a seed of greatness
by the Almighty Architect himself to let them know that
there is a hero within. And then, don’t forget to tell yourself !

    This made my soul smile!

IMO, this is one of a few poems here that I think should be STICK-IED to the top of the Forum! THIS doesn't need to be lost in the pages of archives.

No!...THIS poem should be a DAILY reminder to ALL of us!...a daily MANTRA and personal DEVOTIONAL and AFFIRMATION!

    Thank you for it!

Cherry Blossom – I am very honored by your words. Often we should be reminded of what strengths we’re connected to. A tree is anchored to the ground by roots which draw nourishment from the depths of the earth. Typhoon winds will not topple the tree. Torrential rains will not wash it away. Even freezing snow will not crack it. And the smallest leaf on the furthest branch at the outermost limb grows secure in the knowledge that it is connected to the deepest of these unseen roots. So it is with us. The earlier the babies learn who they are and what connects them, the stronger they will be when they have to teach the next generation to stand on its own. Thanks CB. You got me blossoming. Namyh

When I read this pride swelled inside and it is exactly the kind of food that needs to be fed to our babies.
If good is put in, good will come out. I love this and place it on the top of my HH favorites. Awesome write!

    Hello Harry:
Its been a while....so nice to read you again.
This piece has so much I don't know where to start.
Its beautiful, powerful, encouraging, uplifting, and most of all
Nothing but TRUTH. We need to know who we are and so
do our babies. If we do not know, then how can we let
    them know. Enjoyed this emmensely.

Peace and Much Luv to you,

    :heart:4EVER

    and, so, it is said...

...let the children know who they are...that they might not be so caught up in the negative that they cannot see the light of tomorrow as the sun sets on the brilliance of yesterday. WE ARE a wonderful people. WE ALL should know this.

    the river floweth.

baller - It is estimated that over 120 Million Africans were captured and put into forced servitude. Many did not survive the middle passage from the coast of Africa to the shores of the Americas. Many did not survive the centuries of death-inflicted bondage. At the end of this three century slavery and the Civil War, there were only 20 Million Africans left in the whole Western Hemisphere. That means over 100 Million aunts and uncles, cousins and brothers, sisters and mothers, fathers and sons didn’t make it and who as relatives we will never, ever know. A prayer for them. We are the children of those 20 Million left who were strong enough to survive. We should count ourselves very lucky and never forget what others sacrificed for us to be here today and not take full advantage of what flows in our veins and what flows in our babies’ veins and what flows in the veins of the race, even back to the Pyramids and before. Thanks for letting me rant a little baller. Let the light shine thru. Namyh

In the Spirit of Sankofa and Truth!

    Harry Hyman,

One day, I may be coming to you asking for the rights of Destee.com to post this poem on billboards, in various cities as Site Advertisement. Know that that is my dream...to tell the babies the story. And there is no better way than through poetry to catch the attention of not only our youth, but black people as a whole.

While you are considering what your answer will be, also consider becoming my friend by saying yes to my request...Peace In Harry Hyman, for real!
