Taurus is the second sign of the zodiac, which the Sun transits during the second month of spring, form about April 21 to May 21. The symbol for this sign is The Bull: its polarity is negative; its element is earth; its quality is fixed; its ruling planet is Venus; and on the human anatomy Taurus rules the neck and throat.

In Taurus the stability of earth and the perseverance of fixity are blended with the aesthetic sense of the planet Venus to produce a slow, steadfast nature with a deep appreciation of the beauty and wealth of our planet Earth. The Bull, which is the symbol for Taurus, is a bovine animal of brute force and calm endurance. While all Taureans are not bullish, many do have the quiet strength and stamina of this powerful animal. If those born under Aries (the sign preceding Taurus) are the pioneers and discoverers of the land, Taureans – who include not only Sun-sign Taureans, but all in whose horoscopes the sign is emphasized – are the settlers and cultivators of the land. They are the ones who till the soil and build houses, bridges and towns. Aries is the force of nature; Taurus is the force of civilization.

Earth is the slowest moving of the four elements, and Taurus, being fixed earth, is the earthiest of the earth signs (Capricorn and Virgo are the other two). People born under this sign have a natural affinity for the land, and a deep understanding and respect for all forms of matter. They value natural resources and want to conserve them; they value their material possessions and take good care of them; and they value the fruits of their labor, whether these be food, money (the first love of all Taureans, for this sign gravitates toward money), or personal possessions. They tend to be fixed in their ideas and mannerisms, hence the expression, “stubborn as a bull.”

Taurean infants are characteristically content and regular in feeding and sleeping patterns. They may be remarkably slow in reaching each successful developmental milestone, but one they reach it, they will persevere until it has passed. The typical Taurus child has a solid-looking body and a strong sense of “mine.” They must be gently taught to share their toys, for when Taurus-born people are insecure, their love of material things can harden into greed. Like Cancer children, they are loyal and protective toward their siblings, dolls and playmates.

Taurus has a reputation for being dull and unimaginative, but actually this sign is often emphasized in the horoscopes of highly creative people. Taurus rules the five senses, and these people are tuned in to the subtlest nuances of colors, sounds and fragrances. This delicacy, combined with their legendary persistence, has given the world some great artists and writers who illustrate the truth of the adage that says: “Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.”

Taureans are slow to take offense, but once their anger is aroused, they are implacable. Better to face a Sherman tank than a Taurus on the warpath! However, being ruled by the planet Venus, Taureans are fundamentally peace-loving souls with strong libidinal natures who enjoy all the good things of life, especially eating, drinking, music and art.

Taurus is the money sign of the zodiac, and the Taureans’ love of money is legendary. And most Taureans have very beautiful and distinct speaking and/or singing voices, because this sign rules the vocal chords. This is also true of all those in whose horoscopes the sign Taurus, e.g., those who have the Moon in Taurus, Taurus rising, or many planets in this sign.

With their affectionate nature and slow sensuality, Taurus people are among the finest love partners of all the signs. They make devoted partners and caring parents, though they are both possessive and overprotective. Their most compatible signs are: Capricorn, Virgo, Pisces and Cancer; Aries, Gemini, Libra and Sagittarius are neutral; Leo and Aquarius may be difficult; and with Scorpio, their polar opposite and complementary sign, there will be both attraction and tension, for in this relationship “the irresistible force meets the immovable object.” Ultimately though, the question of compatibility can be answered only by careful comparison of the two horoscopes.

Work comes naturally to Taureans, but they will do best at activities that involve building, nurturing, cooking, conserving, or handling money or possessions. They make fine carpenters, gardeners, farmers, teachers, conservationists, naturalists, ecologists, economists, bankers and business people. Their keen perception and patient dedication may also contribute to accomplishment in scholarship and the arts.

The colors or Taurus are scarlet, orange, deep reddish-orange, cerise, and the earth colors; its birthstone is the emerald, and its day of the week is Friday, which is ruled by Venus.

The following are some prominent African-Americans born under the sign Taurus:

Nicholas Ashford, James Brown, Betty Carter, Rep. William Clay, Rep. John Conyers, Rep. Mervyn Dymally, Duke Ellington, Louis Farrakhan, Ella Fitzgerald, Rep. Harold Ford, Bobbi Humphrey, Janet Jackson, Reggie Jackson, Judith Jamison, Grace Jones, Sugar Ray Leonard, Joe Louis, Coretta Scott-King, Willie Mays, Sugar Ray Robinson, Jimmy Ruffin, Isaiah Thomas, Stevie Wonder and Malcolm X...

Taurean vocalist Angela Bofill (5/10/’56) has a very rare horoscope. She is a triple Taurus! In other words, Taurus is her Sun-sign, Moon-sign and rising sign...

[The odds of being born with a cosmic signature (i.e., Sun-sign, Moon-sign and rising sign) in one sign are 156-1]...

Taurus rules the vocal chords, and Ms. Bofill has an extraordinary voice...

Taureans on the Internet

Taurus may not be the first sign to jump into cyberspace, but not having to leave the comfort and beauty of his/her surroundings will eventually get the Taurean to use the Internet.

Shopping for delicacies, finding the best bargains for all sorts of items, then - best of all - having everything delivered right to the front door is one of the hooks that will get the Taurean native on the Internet.

Looking for the right recipe for the goodies just delivered will keep this earth-sign native poking around the Internet for culinary inspiration. Taurus takes time to adapt to new ideas, and this sign will spend concentrated time visiting sites.

With a strong desire to possess their own space - making it comfortable and pleasing to the eye - Taurus folks usually have a very inviting computer center at home. So having their very own website and announcing that they are a "cyberrock" of stability will be something the Taurean is apt to do.

Gardening and greenery surrounding the home gives the Bull a sense of belonging and safety, so websites for gardening, formal or otherwise, will warm the soul of this willful sign. Suggested sites for the Taurean to visit are:

www.vegetariantimes.com
