Ricki:
Um...hello
My name is Nasheka
I got dis...um boyfren
Who ain't no good
And he has been cheatin on me
And lyin to me
And I know I shouldn't stay wif him
But I love him
He ain't abusive, but sometimes he git real mad an thro stuff
But he's good lookin
But I am here today, Ricki to tell him dat if he don't git his ack scrate, den I'm out.

Judge Mathis:
Uh, yeayah, Judge mathis
I slep wit her but it was jes one time
Hell naw dat kid ain't mine
The doctor told me seven years ago I can't have no kidz
Then there she go poppin up wit dis ****
She helped get me out of jail
But ain't no point in her givin me hell
I said dat kid ain't mine
Excuse me your honor
Uh, yes sir my daughter is nine.

Ricki:
I am telling the truth you don't understand
I never was, ain't never gonna be her man
I coulda woulda shoulda put the condom on first
But my man down south was dying of thirst
Is the child mine or not just let me know
Bam...in your face I told you she was a whore
That makes me a real man
Naw you just don't understand
My wife loves me she ain't goin' no where.
What?!!! She's here??

Judge Hatchett:
Yes ma'am, I loanded him da money
He said he'd pay me back
Now the child is born and he don't know how ta ack.
Why did I stay...well I don't know
I didn't know about her until my friend let me know
He hasn't bought nothin for his baby, he's got a story he tells
When that girlfriend ain't around, then he acts like all is well
But if he thinks for one moment that I was gonna let this ride
He is crazy to think I would leave all this bundled inside
But I just want this test to prove that he can start being dad today
Cause I ain't the one that lied, it shouldn't have to be this way
I loved him for way too long I thought things would get better
But Judge thats why I had to call and send you all a letter
Cause I ain't made no baby alone, but I make sure we survive
Um, yes your honor, he signed the certificate...
Here it is...Oh he's five.

destruction of the family which has been in practice since we hit these shores and know thinks about all these babies being made
such a shame

Eternal!!!!! You were sho' nuff on tha ONE with this piece!! Your composition and technique are fantastic! The voices you created...whoo! Sometimes I get embarassed when I see our peoples airing all this sad dirty laundry on television talk shows, but the real embarassment comes from knowing that these stories are no different from the ones that go on all up and down my street. Sad, but true.
Street So'ja, you are so right! We've got to find a way to heal the dysfunction and brokeness that plagues the black family unit. If we expect the government or the predominant society to help us, we're fooling ourselves. I heard a statistic the other day that said 72% of black children are born out of wedlock. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE??
