In the Spirit of Justice or Else,

Ta-Nehisi Coates: “For African Americans, unfreedom is the historical norm”

On Monday night, the Atlantic published Ta-Nehisi Coates's "The Black Family in the Age of Mass Incarceration." The article, the longest the magazine has run in a decade, limns America's long history of believing African Americans are predisposed to lawlessness and using that assumption to justify a racist police state that locks up African Americans in huge numbers. It's an extraordinary intellectual history of the different ways white America has rationalized jailing huge swaths of the black population, going all the way back to the end of slavery ...

    Yes a very intriguing piece

But my take is that we have our own black haves who aren't putting forth anything new to resolve these issues etc

They're just on the sidelines doing nothing really important or relevant to aid the black have nots at all

Ta-Nehisi Coates and America’s sobering racial truth: Why the criminal justice system is working precisely as intended

The public intellectual invites us to grapple with the past and its relation to our unequal present

... The truth is that crime and poverty are complicated social problems that can’t be reduced to a single variable like ethnicity, birthplace, immorality, or familial disorder. For black people in America, it’s even more complicated (but not at all mysterious). Human beings, after all, are conditioned creatures. You can’t assess a problem like crime or the concomitant breakdown of the family in isolation. “Families,” Coates writes, “are social structures existing within larger social structures.” So it matters a great deal what those larger structures are, and how they got to be that way ...

Largely, Ta-Nehisi Coates, is an academic that is not on the front lines so to speak, and has no agenda asking us to do anything.

Coates supplies us with deeply research information. His most well known academic position is on Reparations, and why we are due the bad check that Martin Luther King talked about.

Why would you ask me a question and then say my answer to your question asked of me is my opinion and not yours?

If coates isn't an ally and doesn't even promote the same agendas etc

then you should be finding other means to promote your own

You are dead wrong. I never said Coates was not an ally or that he doesn't promote the same agenda. I said he is an academic that does helpful research.

As far as promoting my own, we have found means of promoting our own, here it is:
