one day soon
i'm gonna get myself
a muse...
tall, strong, fearless
with a sense of humor
a chocolate, thick
clean-cut brotha
fine as all get up
with a tatoo
or two...
long eyelashes
clean, white smile
i'll stare at him as
i contemplate life

he'll sit still;
Buddha-like
but with a six-pack
full of possibilities

we'll discuss poetry and life
love, and poems
we'll laugh and sigh
and after a few
glasses of wine
he'll explain to me
the source of
'life' in a poem

and how it's like
a pool with many
brightly colored fish
he'll tell me
to lay on my side
and dip my (writing) hand
into the cool water
and wait...
- - he'll tell me that
i shouldn't get lost
in the colors and movements
but that i should
just wait until something
nibbles at my finger tips

so true this suggestion
of his would be
a clearer understanding
conveyed through him
about poetry
and that if a poem is
to stay alive it too has
to breathe
in a pool of ink

........ fountain of words
............ great lake of a blank page

... one day soon
i'm gonna get me a muse
so that i can always
swim in a pool of thoughts
and have him
to thank
for it
