Supreme Court upholds Obamacare individual mandate as a tax

In a victory for President Barack Obama, the Supreme Court upheld his signature health care law's individual insurance mandate in a 5-4 decision, upending speculation after hostile-seeming oral arguments in March that the justices would overturn the law. The mandate has been upheld as a tax, with Chief Justice John Roberts, a Bush appointee, joining the liberal wing of the court to save the law.

That's one angle of attack for healthcare reform down. Depending on the way things end up after November ends, it could still be up on the chopping blocks.

    In the Spirit of Sankofa,

... The Supreme Court ruled on constitutionality of "the mandate," explain what November has to do with that...outside of repeal.

    From the article

How is this a good thing??

All those people out there who have now lost their unemployment and still can't find jobs because of the poor economy are now going to be taxed because they can't afford to buy insurance?

This is going to become another burden on unemployed people or people working part time.

    sigh

If you are unemployed, you will still receive the best of care under the law. Currently, you have to go thru emergency and receive just barely ok care. Under the law, the unemployed receive preventative care. Currently, they dont. It's good for all

ok so there is a government policy that you can BUY at anytime when you don't have insurance. What I am saying is that people who are NOT employed can't afford to buy the government plan and if they don't they will get taxed by the IRS.

Obviously it's better to have insurance than not. But I am not convinced that paying a fine for not buying insurance is somehow better for me.
