    Chapter Two...
    Sherri

So many stories to choose from
but the one that still lingers in my mind
was the time Sherri's mother was
taking a vacation at an island of some kind.
Well, rumors began to fly, and things
weren't exactly as Sherri had said.
In the middle of Mrs. Price's class, someone blurted out
that her mom wasn't in the Bahamas, but in rehab instead.
Many of the children laughed. Hanging her head, Sherri admitted
that it was true. What's more, it had gotten around the school
that her mom left hundreds of dollars under her mattress.
If certain folks in "the bottom" discovered this, it wouldn't be cool.
Since her mother was away, Sherri spent most nights alone.
She said her mother told her not to tell anyone see,
cause people would laugh and make fun of her.
So, the teacher said, "You're staying with me."
She told Sherri to get her money and some clothes, and that
it would be alright. And for about a week, she stayed with Mrs. Price.
Sherri seemed to enjoy all the extra attention given. And upon her
return, the mother appeared to be genuinely grateful and nice.
But as weeks passed Sherri felt that she somehow
deserved preferential treatment, because of the time spent.
When she misbehaved, as she often did, Mrs. Price
disciplined her, and this Sherri began to resent.
A meeting was called, and the mother and daughter
lit into the teacher...How quickly they had forgotten...
Mrs. Price said Sherri's mother didn't know how to talk to
people. And that sure made her feel rotten.
But God is good, and through the years, I'm sure this teacher
has been blessed, because of this good deed.
And hopefully this mother eventually learned to be truly thankful
for the teacher who helped her child when she was in need.

    End of Chapter Two
