    glare of the rising Son
    bleached vision – can't see
    felt a mother's tear drop
    left red pools
fed roots that nourished dead branches
    of our family tree
    what pretell
is this strange fruit that so
    incites me?
plucked from the tree of knowledge
    forbidden source of original sin
    drips the juice of injustice
    thick nectar of innocence
    suspended by a string
seeds sown into the immoral fabric
of chickens to one day roost
    on a national icon—
    or two
it is said that when the swift hand of God
strikes a thunderous bolt of retribution,
the strongest of trees will fall
(just ask the Twin Towers of Babel)
catapulting your children's future into Hell
for seeds planted a generation away
    Mississippi
    Georgia
    Alabama
    NYC
    their homes aren't far enough
to avoid the falling Oak of Karma
Jim Crow doesn't know the half of it
still knee-deep in juices from forbidden fruits
    left dangling in them trees
    found by rising Sons
    sins of the father bequeathed
    like DNA
    the day of reckoning
    has yet to come

When I perform this, I usually close by saying, "Bring on the Reparations..."

    Apologies are not enough
For the lie's tht still hold
Just Re due and Partake knowing of A dummed down Sitiation
Souls still want to hold on to
Even though the Exchange of Gold for Tricked Pleasure

It is a strange fruit that have been planted in the soil that seen to grow into a weed. That is trying to choke the life out of what have been accomplish from our grandparents. Now more then ever we need to bond. I like this.

I intended for the "strange fruit" to liken black men hanging in trees to unidentified fruit, like when you look at a tree, trying to figure out what kind of tree it is... And our children have become like weeds, choking out the good ones. I have a piece that addresses that. I'll see if I can find it!

It's like Amiri Baraka, Haki Mudhubuti and Black Ice all rolled into one. Brilliant slam.
