    Theres an ominous feeling
    I can't seem to shake
    that echoes deep inside
    like a bottomless pit

    shakes the very foundation
    stirring memories of pain
    when I notice around me
    the carnage of our youth

    why?

    what determines this need
    to destroy each other
    knowing....without hesitation
    you kill your own brother

    A stirring in my soul
    has awakened the past
    of millions of our people
    dying, crying, suffering
    to survive the chains

    yet, here we are
    disgracing their name
    by shoveling the same dirt
    that once buried them

    a stirring in my soul
    of what would they think?
would they fall to their knees
    disheartened at our fate

    a stirring in my soul
    runs rampant with sorrow
    injustices they fought
    so that we could survive

    a stirring in my soul
    whispers of my heritage
    of triumphant leaders
    shot down for the cause

    a stirring in my soul
    inspired by slaves
    who would not bend
    beaten and battered
    4 freedom they still lived

    a stirring in my soul
    that we should hold dear
    the struggles of our people
    the martyrs of generations
    no longer here

If the significance of the past
would stir in each of our souls.....

    why?........ we still struggle
why?........ we are not truly free
    why?........we don't know our history

    then change would take place

the story of our people is lost.....
it died with the generations that
    experienced.....

    the love of God
    true unity
    true struggle
    blatant racism

revive the stories of their greatness
revive the struggles of the leaders
revive that unity that was once
    shouted to the mountaintops.....

    "I'm black and I'm proud"

Then Our children will look in the
mirror and be proud to be African American.
Then the unity will set forth in their mind not
to harm your brother.... because he is you.

Then the stirring in the soul......

will be the love we have for each other

This poem speaks volumes. I often think on these very lines in search of "whys" and "how did we come to this". keep flowin' my sistah...I am watching.

    And the rain of Hate
    couldn't Reign
    Love, our...self-LUV
    would wrap US
    in Used To Have
    ALL OVER AGAIN

    deep words

to think that the blood and sweat of slaves ran freely into the soil for the chance and hope of freedom for future generations...

and now some, in todays world, have no value for the freedom their ancestors died for...

    Thanks Joyce.....

Its on my mind, most all the time
everytime I turn on the news
and hear about one of us
    killing another one of us
    it really is a disgrace
to the memory of our ancestors
and I think if more of our young people
knew what was done before them
    they would revere life
especially the life of their own brother
    I appreciate your read....

    Kitana.......

    Soon.......if we take heed to
to the past, revere our people
    bring back the stories
    and love each other
    the next generation
will bring forth a mighty roar
    that will let everyone know
we are here.......we are a mighty people

    and those who hate
    those who oppress
    will not be able
    to affect us anymore
at least, not in the mind.

I thank you for the read....

    $RICH$

    You're right.......
    but they don't know
they have no hope, no faith
they have no sense of love
    no sense of loyalty......
    no self pride
but it starts with the ones
who do know, and the one
    who have heard the stories
    and the cries of freedom.....
My grandfather was 95 when he died
in 1990....I know where my family
    originated from. Who owned
my family....all the history of my
    mother's family. The great ones
    who fought in the war
    who were in the olympics.....
    how we migrated..etc.
That is a wonderful feeling to realize
    where you came from......
Before my grandfather died, I sat down
and talked to him, he told me stories....
he told me his mother was 14, when slavery
    ended........imagine knowing that.
    I videotaped our conversation
and as long as I live.... I will remember it
and pass in down to my kids.
Thats what we have to get back to.....the pride.

:D ....got a little carried away....thanks for the read.
