    Been looking for a dashiki
    One with abstract prints
Bold in the colors red, black, and green
Been looking for my afro pick
    Wide leather belt
    Bell-bottom jeans

    I’m looking for 1968
    When I didn’t care
When Eldridge and Huey made me dare
    Dare to be black
    Dare to be proud
    When “Soul Brother Number One”
Told me to say it loud

    Yes
Looking for the time I didn’t care
When a nickel bag of weed
    Filled my hand-sewn leather pouch
When that revolutionary sister down the street
Got down with me on my mother’s couch
    Life was great
    In 1968

    Black was beautiful
It was beautiful to be black
Every brother and sister was cool
    We liked it like that

I’m looking for that special time
Time forever lost as I got grown
Time of the original brother’s handshake
The time of Sly and the Family Stone

    The closer I look
    I like what I see
    Space helmet afro’s
    A bit nappy
    But very black
    Very free

I can see her sexy midsection
    Beautiful and black
    Above the hip-hugger line
    Black is still beautiful
    Black is still fine

    Young brothers and sisters
    Saying what they feel inside
    Saying it loud
    With soul and with pride

    BE

    Reminiscing...

there was something indescribeable circulating in the air we breathed that was electrifying in those times... it can never be recaptured. But you make the sparks fly again in this beautiful piece of nostalgic, multi-colored tapestry.
