by provoking division
under false pretenses,
perverse manners and
Southern impertinence.
A constant reminder,
a remembrance of a rift
setting kin against kin
seething just beneath skin
A Jolly Roger skull and
crossbones symbol still
rubbing salt into open wounds
honoring a peculiar institution
instigated in infamy and
inhumane existence.
With constant eyesores
splitting capital breezes,
insulting and innervating
all at once, stirring the dying
embers into flame like Austrian
Mad man symbols still sulking
In disbelief that they have been
rejected, repudiated and ruined.
Yet, wonder why stripes
have not faded and hatred has
a home in those without manners.
Swastika stars and bars
smog misunderstanding skies,
choking children of darkness
while stupidity wonders why.
