Ethiopia : Starbucks is Ripping Off Ethiopian Coffee Farmers

Greetings Family!

Years ago, I was heavily exposed to unjustice practices related to African coffee bean farmers. Then later, I saw a National Geographic story on the background of coffee farming in Ethiopia and the trading negotioations they ensue with many obstacles to sustaining sufficient income to support their families as well as their crop. Many farmers are forced to make hard decisions to rip away their bean crop and grow other cash crops, many of which are illegal. In this story, I learned of the many coporate giants, such as Starbucks, who have continued to widen the gap of unfair trading and trademarks, which grew into a dispute lasting years.

After reading the thread on Starbucks by Sister Destee:heart: , http://destee.com/index.php?threads/starbucks-will-stop-using-crushed-bugs-in-their-drinks.71638/ it sparked my curiosity to find out the current position of the Ethiopian coffee farmers and their dispute with Starbucks.

The following stories reveal not much progress has transpired and these farmers are still not reaping their dues. These developments have really pushed me to STOP purchasing products from Starbucks and I emplore you all to do likewise.

Love yall!!!

Considering that he owns the land that the vast majority of these farmers are using, where does Sheikh Mohammed Al-Amoudi fit into all of this?

What does it say that a company is more powerful than a Country?

Sister Proverbs31Woman ... thanks for sharing!

I've never been inside of a Starbucks, never had one of their drinks.

I've often wondered about all the Starbucks hype, but was never inclined to partake.

Now i have even more reason never to go in ... :)

Love You!

Right, considering their raping costs, I wouldn't either, so I'm with you there! However, they sell their drinks in convenience stores and vending machines, of which I see many folks purchase as well as us being able to brew our own coffee via their coffee brand sold in grocery stores, so I'm really trying to implore consumers to boycott the Starbucks brand anywhere.

I admit just the other week, I walked into a gas station and wanted a pick me up drink and without hesitation, picked up a Starbucks Cappacino. So, when I came across the disputes, my passion to boycott Starbucks brand was reinforced!

Love you back!!
