    DeVona wants love to hurt
    I spoke to crow today
It wanted proof up on the roof
    Before it flew away

    DeVona- she's a lovely girl
    Dear ~ yet far away
Black pearl... of the colored world
    And yo'... the sex? ok!

    **** crow flew again today
    Like some rite of passage
    Old bird... loves to talk
    Squawked out a message-

    "Squawk- DeVona has no passion"

"Squawk- men have feet of clay"

    "Smooth her feathers baby... squawk"

    "Flow dis- poem today"

    well-written

i remember back in high school my english
class was required to read and interpret
    all sorts of narrative poems

today i sit as a poet myself and have come to
discover that only the poet himself or herself
can fully understand and comprehend its
meaning yet as a form of good sport we
would relentlessly press to understand each
    narrative piece

i assume that "CROW" refers to the time of
Jim Crow and Devona was so light she could
pass for white. She really didn't carry the best
mind-set. She could fool the whites during the
time of Jim Crow but she couldn't fool the colored
    community.

    Can you say

    Imitation of Life

    nice work :toast:

    welcome

poeticdelight, thanks for the read and kind words. I like your interpretation as much as the poem itself! Rather mysteriously, our "joints" flow on various levels- even some that would surprise the author. 1poetsought
