I just thought I'd do something different......

How's about post the lyrics to a song, and give the divine (if any) meaning behind it. :dj:

    Here's one:

    THE POLICE
    "WRAPPED AROUND YOUR FINGER"

You consider me the young apprentice
Caught between the Scylla and Charibdes
Hypnotized by you if I should linger
Staring at the ring around your finger

I have only come here seeking knowledge
Things they would not teach me of in college
I can see the destiny you sold
Turned into a shining band of gold

    {Refrain}
And I'll be wrapped around your finger
I'll be wrapped around your finger

    Mephistopheles is not your name
But I know what you're up to just the same
I will listen hard to your tuition
You will see it come to it's fruition

    {Refrain}

Devil and the deep blue sea behind me
Vanish in the air you'll never find me
I will turn your face to alabaster
When you'll find your servant is your master

    {As Refrain}
Whoa, you'll be wrapped around my finger
You'll be wrapped around my finger
You'll be wrapped around my finger
    Whoa-oh

This is an old 80's song, that I used to like back in the day. I never really thought too much about the lyrics back then, as my focus on lyrics didn't come into play until I was a bit older.

However, in listening to is now, I see that this song has alot of arcane and esoteric meaning.....

You consider me the young apprentice
Caught between the Scylla and Charibdes
Hypnotized by you if I should linger
Staring at the ring around your finger

This to me, represents the relationship between an Entering Apprentice and 33rd Degree Mason of the Masonic Order.

The Apprentice is caught between "the rock and the hard place", striving to reconcile all that he believes, with all that he is currently learning in the Order. The ring is of course, the Masonic Ring.

I have only come here seeking knowledge
Things they would not teach me of in college
I can see the destiny you sold
Turned into a shining band of gold

The legacy of Masonry is tied intrinsically to race (black and white). Here we see an apprentice striving to unravel life mysteries, willing to go to great lengths and depths to satiate his hunger. But is the price to great? Is he willing to sell his soul for a ring, and all that it represents?

    Mephistopheles is not your name
But I know what you're up to just the same
I will listen hard to your tuition
You will see it come to it's fruition

Mephistopheles is the Greek name for Satan. Here the apprentice is saying that he recognizes the nature of his teacher, and of the deal he must make to learn this hidden knowledge.

Devil and the deep blue sea behind me
Vanish in the air you'll never find me
I will turn your face to alabaster
When you'll find your servant is your master

Whoa, you'll be wrapped around my finger

Here we see the apprentice turns the tables on the master; he takes the knowledge and uses it against his teacher.

Pretty deep, if you ask me. :?:

    PEACE

It's funny you mention the album Synchronicity, I used to listen to it all the time, one of my favorite tracks was Tea In The Sahara.

At the time of the album I was aware that Sting, was very heavy in to metaphysics. That the song Tea in The Sahara may have had made some allusion to the soul traveling west, after death.

But here is a song by the name of Cast Down, by a band called slayer, tell me what you the words mean to you

    Despair, Emptiness
See the hatred wasted on yourself
Face down taste the dust, it's getting harder everyday
Just to find a reason not to end it all yourself
    Suicide on the Street
Everywhere around you watch it breed
It begins to bury you in self-induced rejection

So now you're wasted, broken down
    I see through your ignorance
Penetrate the surface of your insecure inside
    Next Fix, shoot it up
Looking for the place where God speaks
Everytime you find him he just stabs you in the back again

    No one hears you
    You're society's Infection
    I won't judge you
When the blood steals life from you

    Cast down and thrown away
    You are the living dead
    The needle numbs the pain
    Of all your suffering
This is where the world of money changes nothing

Just a statistic in the shadows of the real world
The Sytem's failing you just the way it failed me
Hell is home on the concrete where the city bleeds
America-home of the free land of disenchantment

    Despair, emptiness
    Isolation rapes you everday
    I won't judge you
When the blood steals life from you
    No one sees you
    You're societies infection
    I won't judge yoyu
When the blood steals life from you
